Several officials from the president-elect’s transition team have expressed frustration with Trump’s nominee for secretary of defense.

Members of President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team are reportedly preparing a list of alternative candidates for Secretary of Defense, in case Trump decides to drop Pete Hegseth. Vanity fair reported Tuesday, citing two anonymous insiders. Trump’s inner circle is reportedly frustrated with Hegseth afterward allegations of sexual abuse came to light just days after his appointment was announced. Despite the report, Trump has given no indication that he plans to withdraw Hegseth’s nomination. “People are angry about the distraction,” one of the sources told the magazine. “The general feeling is that Pete has not been honest.” Police in Monterey, California confirmed that Hegseth was investigated for alleged sexual abuse in 2017. repeatedly denied the allegations against him, and the Fox News host was not charged following the 2017 incident. It is not the first time that transition team officials have expressed doubts about the nominee. Another source said The Washington Post On Friday, they reported that Hegseth had “not been properly vetted” and they were concerned that more things could come to light in the future.
