Recruiting Roundup: The latest updates on the pursuit of five-star Bryce Underwood

We’re less than a month away from college football’s early signing period, and there’s plenty of recruiting news to be had from now until then.

Let’s take a look at the latest updates in this biweekly edition of the Recruiting Roundup, starting with the recruit every Michigan fan is talking about.

The latest on five-star Bryce Underwood’s pursuit

We all know the Bryce Underwood story at this point: He’s the top recruit in the class of 2025, plays at Belleville High School, committed to LSU in January, and Michigan made an NIL effort to land him .

Underwood’s camp has been understandably quiet on the matter, and there has been a lot of speculation about Underwood’s decision on Michigan’s social media pages.

Here’s the latest from Allen Trieu ($) of 247Sports, one of the more plugged-in recruiting reporters in the game.

  • Underwood visited LSU last weekend for the big loss to Alabama, and by all accounts it was a good visit despite the outcome of the game.
  • Don’t expect any big statements after that LSU visit based on how quiet Underwood’s camp has been. Maybe they don’t want all this news, including the recent addition of manifesto writer and former vacuum salesman Connor Stalions to the Belleville coaching staff, to take the focus away from the pursuit of a state title.
  • The fact that Underwood is going ahead with this LSU visit despite rampant unfounded rumors that he might not make it is a great sign for LSU.
  • Citing sources, Trieu reported that the Tigers feel much more solid in their position with Underwood after the visit.
  • With all of this, not much changes for Michigan, as Trieu reports that Michigan is still “doing everything it can to keep him home.”
  • As of now, Underwood currently resides at LSU despite a significant NIL offer. That said, NIL doesn’t appear to be the only factor here. According to Trieu, Michigan’s offensive performance and their plan for the future are also a factor.
  • Who the offensive coordinator is at both schools will be a factor in his decision.

We’ll keep you posted on the latest news on Michigan’s push to turn Underwood, something that would create seismic shifts in the program if Michigan were to pull it off.

Michigan DL plans to visit Wisconsin this weekend

Michigan signed four-star defensive lineman Jaylen Williams in June, but it appears his arrival in Ann Arbor isn’t exactly a done deal.

EJ Holland ($) of Wolverine reported that Williams is expected to visit Wisconsin this weekend when the Badgers host the No. 1 Oregon Ducks along with former Michigan quarterback Carter Smith.

Williams has been pretty quiet since committing. It’s not unusual for committed recruits to still visit, but in this particular case, considering he’s visiting with a scorned former commit, it’s worth paying attention to how this visit turned out for Williams expires.

Top-300 edge will visit Michigan later this month

The Wolverines have only one real lead in their 2025 class – four-star Julius Holly – and it appears they are trying to get another.

Tobi Haastrup, who plays high school football in Houston, Texas, will visit USC (Nov. 16), Michigan (Nov. 23) and Oregon (Nov. 30) later this month. The 275th-ranked defender is originally from London, England and didn’t start playing until his senior year of high school, after growing up playing soccer and competing in athletics.

Haastrup spoke with 247’s Mike Roach ($) about what he’s looking for from the coaching staff recruiting him.

“Absolutely transparency,” he said. “A coach who looks me in the eye and tells me things he told me over the phone and sees the love they have for their athletes. Just watch and observe while not even talking and observing their features. What is their pitch to me? Every coach has a different pitch, but what really stands out to me is when a coach expresses this. And that’s not just through his words, but I can see from his presentation or his gestures that he really needs a player like me who can influence the match. team. I just don’t want to be another number. These are things I pick up along the way.”

Haastrup said he will make a decision on December 2, two days before signing day.

Fast hitters

-Don’t think we’ve mentioned the year 2030 in these roundups before, but there’s a first for everything. Michigan has extended an offer to 2030 recruit (i.e. a current eighth-grader) Sam Holcomb, the son of JJ McCarthy’s boyhood quarterback coach Greg Holcomb.

-Trieu reported earlier this week that 2026 four-star Toledo cornerback Victor Singleton will visit Michigan for the Northwestern game, a week before he visits Texas A&M.

-Speaking of visits, for the Northwestern game on Nov. 23, Michigan will host a four-star offense and Washington will deploy Zac Stascausky, as reported by Brice Marich of The Michigan Insider ($).
