London police release photo of suspect in hate-motivated attack

Investigators from the London Police Service’s (LPS) hate crime unit have shared an image of a suspect in connection with an alleged hate-motivated attack that took place in Ivey Park, near the city center, on Saturday afternoon.

The suspect, described as a white man in his 40s, allegedly made derogatory comments to a Muslim man who was with his family, police said. He then attacked the man and remained in the area for about 20 minutes before leaving the park on a blue motorcycle-style e-bike.

The incident has been condemned on social media by the National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM), London Mayor Josh Morgan and most recently by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who called the attack “abhorrent and unacceptable” on X, formerly Twitter.

The victim in Saturday’s incident suffered minor injuries and did not require medical attention, according to police.

Police are asking anyone with information about the suspect to call 519-661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
