Disabled driver arrested after crashing into multiple cars and a fire hydrant, causing road to wash out and close

A driver crashed into three cars on Halloween night, hit a fire hydrant and caused a road collapse in Oviedo. According to Oviedo police, the driver was damaged and arrested.

On Thursday, October 31 around 10:00 p.m., Oviedo Police and Fire responded to a car crash reported on Oviedo Blvd, just north of Mitchell Hammock Road.

While one of the ambulances was transporting a patient, the rear of the vehicle fell into the now collapsed ground, caused by the driver hitting the fire hydrant.

A Seminole County Fire Department unit was called to assist in transporting the patient as the other ambulance was now stuck.

A tow truck was able to pull the ambulance out of the collapsed road.

There were no other injuries.

However, upon further investigation, Oviedo police officers determined that the driver of the vehicle that had struck three cars and that a fire hydrant had been damaged.

The driver, Robert W. Garcia, was taken to the Seminole County Jail and charged with driving under the influence and refusing to submit to a DUI test.

Oviedo Public Works crews responded to the scene to assess the damage, and after the accident it was determined that the fire hydrant shut-off valves were broken.

Around 9 a.m., a valve was located and the water flow on Oviedo Blvd was stopped.

The northbound lanes of Oviedo Blvd. between mitchell hammock road and center lake lane will be closed friday while crews assess damage and work to repair the
way back for traffic.
